INFORMATION
ABOUT CHANGES
|
The CHANGES Parent Support Network (CPSN) is a
non-profit organization to help parents who are experiencing
problems with their adolescent children.
CPSN provides a forum for empowering parents
through its parent support groups, parenting workshops and
educational seminars and materials. Parent support groups meet
weekly throughout the Puget Sound area of Washington State.
Using the concepts of peer support and
self-help, CPSN encourages parents to take proactive steps to
change the destructive behavior they are experiencing from their
adolescents. We recognize that one parenting method or style does
not work for all families. For parents experiencing crises in
their families, getting new ideas and methods that have worked for
others is priceless.
CPSN helps parents implement a well thought out
plan to begin changing children's destructive behaviors, with the
physical and emotional support of other parents.
We have found that when a parent changes what
they are doing, the child will change. We begin this process by
changing our parenting methods and getting the help to do it.
This does not mean that our old parenting styles were wrong. They
just didn't work with this child.
Yes, sometimes it takes a village to raise our
kids. And we know of no better "village" than parents
who provide real strength to each other through their combined
experiences and wisdom in dealing with common problems.

HOW
WE OPERATE
As an
umbrella organization, CPSN seeks to minimize the "business
side" of its member support groups, so that parents may work
on their family crises rather than be burdened with the paperwork
of running a support group. Weekly group meetings are free;
donations are accepted. Seminars and workshops are kept to a
minimum cost. CPSN rather than the individual groups handles
federal and state registrations, tax returns, reporting
requirements and insurance.

PARENT
VOLUNTEERS
CPSN
also provides advanced training to parents who have "lived
through their crises" and wish to help others and their
community. As representatives of CPSN, these parent volunteers are
"giving back" to their communities by helping build
cooperation with other agencies such as police, courts, treatment
centers and schools.
